Cellulite - The Cosmic Joke Against Women

By: Urbain Beck

Cellulite is unfair.

Maybe that is a nervy proclamation to make, but it is true.

First of all, men infrequently have cellulite, no matter how out of shape they are. Secondly, at least 80% of women will get it, regardless of their weight.

In exploring these arguments as to why cellulite is unfair, let's take a look at exactly what cellulite is. Cellulite is that ugly "orange peel" or cottage cheese look that appears on the thighs, legs and buttocks of most women as they age. It is caused by the storage of fat cells in the subcutaneous tissue and the consequent pushing of fat against the skin.

Why Men Do Not Have Cellulite.

It is very rare that men develop cellulite, even though they may be obese. Cellulite formation is, in part, hormonal. Hormonal surges such as PMS, puberty, menopause and pregnancy are all thought to contribute to the appearance of cellulite. In the case of pregnancy, the estrogen released during the latter stages of pregnancy helps to relax the cervix and get the body ready for birth, but it also tears down the collagen tissue, making the formation of cellulite easy. Progesterone helps to retain fluid, which can boost cellulite issues.

Another biological reason is that the subcutaneous tissue structure that men have is different from the tissue that women have. In men, the fibrous tissue is perpendicular to the skin. In women, the tissue crosses, forming an "x" that tends to be much tighter than men's tissue. This "x" formation causes pulling on the skin and contributes to the dimpling effect.

Fat storage is a further contributing factor. Women store a lot more fat than men do.

Skinny Women Can Have Cellulite, As Well.

When it comes to the fight against cellulite, an additional unfair factor is the fact that it strikes over 80% of women, regardless of their size. Skinny women get it. Obese women get it. Cellulite does not discriminate.

Genetics may play a factor in cellulite appearance, as well as hormonal levels. Smoking, drinking a lot of coffee, not eating properly and inactive behavior are also assumed to affect cellulite production. Women who work out and exercise often may see cellulite, which can be quite frustrating if they spend a lot of time in the exercise room. This is because they may not be correctly exercising the parts of their bodies that are prone to cellulite.

Can An Unfair War Be Won?

No one likes to "show off" her cellulite. It is nasty.

Getting rid of cellulite may not be entirely possible, but it is certainly possible to reduce it. Specific cellulite reduction exercises, massage therapies, and anti-cellulite lotions, gels and patches are amongst the arsenal women can use to combat the battle over cellulite. Replacing coffee and alcohol with water can help; switching from greasy foods to fresh fruits and vegetables can also make a difference. For women who are smokers, kicking the habit might make the cellulite start to fade away. A few women resort to surgical procedures like liposuction to get rid of cellulite.

Cellulite may seem unfair, but at least it can be controlled. Luckily, it is not always necessary to pay out a lot of money on surgical treatment. Many creams, gels and massagers are relatively inexpensive.

Reducing cellulite will not happen overnight with a magical pill or potion, but with persistence, it can be achieved.

To win the war against cellulite, you need to first be familiar with what cellulite is. The next step is to nurture a little patience and then work with the anti-cellulite weapon that appeals to you (and possibly your medical doctor). A cellulite massager is considered to be a great tool by many women, some of whom have reported on their experiences with massagers, vacuums and other home remedies on the market.
